Where we cover

Devon, Plymouth and Torbay: Exeter and Exmouth, Torquay and Paignton, Newton Abbot, Plymouth, Barnstaple in the north, and the small towns and villages in between.

Most homes are residential, many are small, and some are a long way from the nearest town. That distance is the real reason staffing is hard here.

For homes off a bus route we only offer the shift to people with a car, and we tell you so at booking.

How it works

  1. 1

    Tell us the shift

The home, the dates, and whether it is on a bus route. Grouped gaps are easier to fill than single nights.

  2. 2

    We check transport

The shift goes to a checked carer who can get there reliably, and you get their file before the first shift.

  3. 3

    Runs of shifts

Several shifts in a row with the same person suit small homes, residents and the carer.

Urgent shifts
Same day, when a carer who can reach the home is free.
Planned runs
One week to set up a run of shifts with the same people.

Compliance before arrival

Care homes in England are inspected by the Care Quality Commission. Every file comes to you before the first shift.

  • Enhanced DBS with the adults' barred list check, seen before anyone is booked.

  • Right to work checked against original documents or the Home Office online service.

  • References two, one from the most recent care employer.

  • Training moving and handling, safeguarding, infection prevention and basic life support, with certificates in the file you receive.

  • Nurses live NMC registration checked on the register before each placement.

Torbay and the South Hams

Torbay's homes compete with hotels and hospitality for staff, and that is sharpest in the summer. Further west, homes in the South Hams and on the edge of Dartmoor depend on a few people who can drive in. Planning ahead with us for the summer months and for winter weather makes a real difference.
