Flamingo Workforce
Living in Doncaster and want steady residential work?
We are filling permanent Support Worker posts at a small children’s home in the countryside near Gainsborough, within commuting distance of Doncaster. You would be employed by the home directly, not by an agency, on at least 37.5 hours a week with extra hours there if you want them. Flamingo Workforce is running the recruitment.
Pay that grows with the sleep ins
The hourly rate is £13 to £14, set by your experience and qualifications. On top of that, each sleep in you complete is paid at £60. Because the rota is built around sleep ins, most weeks pay well above what the hourly figure alone would suggest.
Three days on, then real time off
Work comes in blocks. You start at 10am and stay until 11pm, then sleep in. The next day runs 7:30am to 11pm with a second sleep in, and you hand over at 10am on the third morning. After that you are off until your next block, which suits anyone who would rather do fewer, longer stints than five short days.
Two boys, soon three
The home looks after two young boys at the moment, with a third placement planned. With so few children you get to know each of them well. The job is about consistency: trauma informed care, keeping school, meals, hobbies and outings on track, following each boy’s care plan when emotions run high, writing up records properly and sticking to safeguarding procedures. Social workers and other professionals are part of the picture too.
What you bring
Attitude counts for more than a long CV here, and full training is given, though time spent with children or young people in care, schools or residential settings will help. You need a grasp of safeguarding, patience under pressure and room for evenings, weekends and sleep ins. A full UK driving licence is strongly preferred because the home is rural and the boys need driving to school and activities. An enhanced DBS check is required and supported. The home cannot sponsor visas, so you need the right to work in the UK already. Pension, free parking, casual dress, a referral scheme and ongoing training come with the post, and the home is an equal opportunities employer that follows safer recruitment.
