Support Worker, Gainsborough

Flamingo Workforce

A small home where you know every child

A children’s home on the edge of Gainsborough is taking on permanent Residential Support Workers. Two young boys live there now and a third placement is planned, so the team is small and the work is personal. You are employed by the home itself from your first day, on a minimum of 37.5 hours a week with overtime whenever you want it. Flamingo Workforce is handling the recruitment for them.

How the rota works

Shifts run in residential blocks. A typical block starts at 10am and runs to 11pm with a sleep in, the second day goes from 7:30am to 11pm with another sleep in, and you finish at 10am on the third morning. Then you are off until your next block. Pay is £13 to £14 an hour depending on experience and qualifications, and every sleep in adds £60 on top, so a full rota earns noticeably more than the hourly figure suggests.

The work itself

This is residential childcare done properly. You build trust with the boys through steady, trauma informed care, keep their routines going around school, meals, hobbies and days out, and respond to emotional and behavioural needs the way each care plan sets out. Records have to be accurate and safeguarding procedures followed every time. You will work closely with colleagues, social workers and the other professionals around each child.

Who it suits

Experience with children or young people in residential, education or social care helps, but the home cares more about attitude and gives full training. You should understand safeguarding and stay calm and patient when a day turns difficult. Evenings, weekends and sleep ins are part of the job. The home is rural and you will drive the boys to school and activities, so a full UK driving licence is strongly preferred. The post needs an enhanced DBS check, which the home helps with, and you must already have the right to work in the UK because sponsorship is not available.

What comes with it

A company pension, on site parking, casual dress, a referral scheme and ongoing training in a small team. Gainsborough is within driving distance of Doncaster, Retford, Scunthorpe and Lincoln. The home follows safer recruitment and is an equal opportunities employer.

Getting started

Send an up to date CV through the site. We read applications every day and move quickly, because the home wants people in post as soon as possible.
