Where we staff

On the Essex side, London Gateway at Stanford le Hope and the Port of Tilbury bring the containers in, and the warehouses at Purfleet, West Thurrock and Grays move the goods on.

Across the river, the sites around Crossways at Dartford and the A282 are among the most convenient in the south east for London and the M25, with more work around Gravesend.

We do not assume someone in Gravesend will cross to Thurrock for a night shift. We book on each side of the river separately.

How it works

  1. 1

    Tell us the work

Site, shift times, numbers, and whether the shift involves tipping containers by hand.

  2. 2

We book your side of the river

Checked staff who live on your side of the crossing and have done this kind of work before.

  3. 3

    On the dock tomorrow

Next day for cover, or a week for a larger start with everyone inducted.

By tomorrow
Ask today and checked staff are on your dock or floor for tomorrow's shift.
Larger starts
One week's notice so the whole team is checked and inducted.

What we check

Right to work, ID, references and licences, checked before we put anyone forward.

  • Right to work checked against original documents or the Home Office online service before the first shift.

  • Identity and references photo ID seen, and work references taken up.

  • Lift truck certificates for forklift and reach roles, a current certificate from a recognised body such as RTITB, AITT, ITSSAR or NPORS, with a copy kept on file.

  • Your site rules safety footwear, hi vis, induction times and any site specific training agreed with you at booking.

Container work is physical

Hand unloading containers is heavy work and not everyone is suited to it. Tell us when a shift involves tipping containers by hand, and we will put forward people who have done it before. It saves you an early finish and a gap on the dock.
