This one suits a support worker who already has some care work behind them, at least six months in the UK, and who would like more say over when and where they work. Complex care and behaviour support
If you have worked in complex care, or with people with learning disabilities, autism or mental health needs, that background travels well here. Training in positive behaviour support, MAPA or PMVA is particularly worth telling us about, because supporting positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing is a big part of the work in some services. Neither is essential, but both help us match you well.
Everyday tasks
The rest of the role is the core of support work: personal care, practical help, encouraging people to get involved in everyday activities, giving medication if you are trained, keeping records accurate and safeguarding the people you support, all with the aim of helping them live as independently as they can, with dignity and choice.
Around Berkshire
Work is matched to your postcode and travel time, so a support worker living in Wokingham, Bracknell or Maidenhead, or coming over from Camberley or Basingstoke, is offered shifts that make sense for that journey. A driving licence helps with community and domiciliary work but is not a must.
Hours and money
Pick days, nights, waking nights or sleep ins. Pay runs from £13 to £18 an hour depending on the shift and setting and is paid weekly. There are ad hoc shifts, block bookings and longer placements in Reading and the wider county.
Paperwork
Along with your experience and the Care Certificate where applicable, we need your right to work in the UK, an enhanced DBS on the update service (we will arrange one if you need it), mandatory training in date, covering safeguarding, moving and handling and medication where required, and two references from recent employment.
