Flamingo Workforce

Support work is less about doing things for people and more about backing them to do things for themselves. In Newcastle and across Tyne and Wear and Northumberland, Flamingo Workforce places agency support workers who understand that difference, in supported living, residential care, mental health services and community settings.

Mental health work

Mental health services are one of the settings we book into, and they suit people who are steady under pressure and patient when a day does not go to plan. Supporting positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing is a real part of the job there. If you have MAPA or PMVA training, or PBS, say so when we speak, because it widens the range of work we can put you forward for. Experience with learning disability, autism or complex care is also useful.

Day to day

Alongside that, you will help with personal care and practical tasks, encourage people to take part in the ordinary activities of their day, give medication if you are trained to, keep accurate records and safeguard the people you support. The aim throughout is independence, dignity and choice for them.

Hours that fit

You choose the shifts: days, nights, waking nights or sleep ins. Pay is £13 to £18 an hour depending on the shift and setting, and it lands weekly. You can work ad hoc, take a block booking or settle into a longer placement, whether you live in Gateshead, North Tyneside, South Shields, Sunderland or out in Northumberland. We match on postcode and travel time, so the work should be close to where you are.

Requirements

You will need a minimum of six months in a UK care role and the Care Certificate where applicable, the right to work in the UK, an enhanced DBS check registered on the update service (we arrange it if you have not got one), mandatory training that has not lapsed, including safeguarding, moving and handling and medication where required, and two referees from recent employment. A driving licence is helpful for community work but not essential.

Put your CV in through the website. We aim to phone you within one working day, find out which parts of the North East you want to cover and begin your compliance checks so you can start once they are through.
