We start with your postcode. Before we suggest a single shift to a support worker in Liverpool, we look at where you live and how far you are prepared to travel, then offer agency work across Merseyside that fits. Someone on the Wirral, in St Helens or up in Southport gets a different list from someone in the city centre, and people coming from Warrington or Chester are matched the same way.
Supported living and mental health
Two of the settings we recruit for here are supported living and mental health services, alongside residential care and community settings. In supported living you help people run their own lives at home. In mental health services you support someone’s wellbeing and encourage them back into day to day life. In both, the point is independence, dignity and choice for the person you are with.
What you will be doing
Personal care and practical help, encouraging people to take part in everyday activities, supporting positive behaviour, assisting with medication where you are trained, keeping clear records and safeguarding the people in your care.
Getting cleared to work
We need six months or more of UK care experience, the Care Certificate where applicable, and proof of your right to work in the UK. You should have an enhanced DBS on the update service, but if you do not, we can arrange one. Your mandatory training, including safeguarding, moving and handling and medication where required, has to be in date, and we will take up two references covering your recent employment. Experience in learning disability, autism, mental health or complex care, or training in PBS, MAPA or PMVA, is useful. A driving licence helps for community and domiciliary shifts, though it is not essential.
Pay and choice
£13 to £18 an hour depending on the shift and setting, paid weekly for the hours you work. Pick days, nights, waking nights or sleep ins, and work ad hoc, on a block booking or on a longer placement.
