Flamingo Workforce
York sits within reach of Leeds, Wakefield and Bradford, and Hull or Sheffield are not out of the question for a locum social worker who does not mind a longer drive. Distance is the first thing we talk about, before any post is mentioned.
Distance first
When you register, we take your postcode and ask how far you are prepared to travel, then look at local authority and health and social care teams in York and across North Yorkshire with that limit in mind. Posts cover children and families, adult services, mental health, safeguarding and hospital discharge. Some contracts are a few weeks long, others go past six months, and you can work full time or part time.
What you will be doing
You will hold your own caseload, with assessments and reviews to complete and plans and reports to write. There are meetings to attend, hearings when a case needs one, and steady work with families, carers and partner agencies. Your recording has to meet statutory and legal standards. On every placement you get supervision and the backing of the team you join.
Requirements in plain terms
A recognised social work qualification, registration with Social Work England that is current, and two years or more of post qualifying work in a UK statutory setting. Beyond that: the right to work in the UK, two contactable references from recent employers, and an enhanced DBS check held on the update service, which we will arrange for you if needed. For most community roles you will want a driving licence and a car, and given the size of the county that is worth taking seriously. Experience of child protection, court work, adult safeguarding, approved mental health work or hospital discharge is a plus. Senior practitioner and team manager posts come up regularly.
Rate
Between £25 and £40 an hour depending on the team and how senior the post is, and you are paid weekly.
Apply through the site with your CV. We will be on the phone to you within one working day.
