This one suits a social worker who wants to keep practising, but on terms that fit the rest of life: a part time contract, a few weeks rather than a year, work near home in Wolverhampton or elsewhere in the Black Country.
Fitting work around you
Our locum and agency contracts come in full time and part time forms and can run from a few weeks to six months or more. When you register we ask for your postcode and how far you will travel, so a candidate in Dudley, Walsall or West Bromwich is not sent to the far side of Birmingham unless they want to be. Telford is within reach for some people too.
The teams and the cases
Posts sit with local authority and health and social care teams in children and families, adult services, mental health, safeguarding and hospital discharge. You would hold cases, complete assessments and reviews, produce plans and reports, join meetings and occasionally hearings, and work with families, carers and other agencies. Records have to clear the statutory and legal bar. Whatever your hours, supervision and team support come with the placement.
Who we can put forward
Social Work England registration and a recognised qualification are the starting point, along with at least two years of post qualifying experience somewhere statutory in the UK. We will also need proof of your right to work, two references from your recent employment and an enhanced DBS on the update service, or we can apply for one with you. A driving licence and car are needed for most community work. Child protection, court, adult safeguarding, approved mental health or discharge work all strengthen an application, and we often hear from teams looking for senior practitioners and managers.
Pay
£25 to £40 an hour depending on the team and level of post, paid weekly for the hours you actually work, part time or not.
