Children’s work and the courtroom
We place social workers with local authority and health and social care teams across Tyne and Wear, and children and families is one of the main areas. Child protection or court experience is useful to the teams we supply, though it is not the only route in. Adult services, mental health, safeguarding and hospital discharge posts come through as well.
The day to day
You manage a caseload. That means assessments and reviews, clear written plans and reports, meetings and, where needed, hearings, plus a lot of contact with families, carers and partner agencies. Recording is held to statutory and legal standards, so good habits with case notes matter. You will have supervision and a team around you on every placement we arrange.
South of the Tyne or north of it
Because we match on postcode and travel time, a post in Sunderland might suit someone in South Shields, Gateshead or Durham, and Newcastle or North Tyneside are not far either. Contracts last from a few weeks to six months or longer, full time or part time, and pay is weekly.
Pay, papers and registration
The rate is £25 to £40 an hour depending on the team and seniority. You will need a recognised qualification in social work, current registration with Social Work England, and two or more years post qualifying in a UK statutory service. On top of that we ask for the right to work in the UK, two references from recent work, an enhanced DBS on the update service (we can sort one out if you need it) and, for most community posts, a licence and car. Team managers and senior practitioners are in regular demand.
