How quickly can a qualified social worker go from sending a CV to working a locum contract in Southampton? With us it depends mostly on how fast your paperwork comes together, because we ring you within one working day of applying and open your compliance file on that first call. Once the file is complete, you can take your first shift.
Where the contracts sit
We place social workers with local authority teams and health and social care teams in the city and out across Hampshire. Some people want a stint close to home in Eastleigh or Fareham; others will happily drive towards Winchester, Gosport or Portsmouth for the right post. Contracts can be a few weeks long or stretch past six months, full time or part time, and the service areas cover children and families, adults, mental health, safeguarding and hospital discharge.
Your week on placement
Expect to carry a caseload. You will assess, review, write plans and reports that stand up to scrutiny, sit in meetings and, when a case calls for it, attend hearings. Much of the job is time with families, carers and the other agencies around them, and the recording has to satisfy statutory and legal standards. Every placement comes with supervision and a team behind you.
Before we can put you forward
You need a recognised social work qualification, live registration with Social Work England and at least two years of post qualifying practice in a UK statutory setting. We also ask for the right to work in the UK, two references covering your recent jobs and an enhanced DBS on the update service; if you have not got one, we will arrange it. Most community posts need a driving licence and a car. A background in child protection, court work, adult safeguarding, approved mental health work or discharge planning helps, and senior practitioners and team managers are asked for regularly.
Money and next steps
Rates run from £25 to £40 an hour depending on the team and the grade of the post, and pay goes out weekly. Apply on the site with your CV and we will talk through which corner of Hampshire suits you.
