Good recording is half of social work, and the half people talk about least. In the Portsmouth teams we recruit for, the records you keep have to meet statutory and legal standards, and the reports you write may be read by managers, other professionals and, at times, a court.
Writing it down properly
So if you are someone who writes clearly and keeps notes up to date, that counts for a lot here. It sits alongside the rest of the role: holding a caseload, completing assessments and reviews, drafting plans, and attending meetings and hearings where needed. You will work with families, carers and partner agencies, and have supervision and team support on every placement.
The posts
Locum and agency contracts with local authority and health and social care teams in Portsmouth and across Hampshire and the South Coast. Areas covered are children and families, adult services, mental health, safeguarding and hospital discharge. Experience in child protection, court work, adult safeguarding, approved mental health work or discharge is useful, and we regularly need senior practitioners and team managers. Bookings last from a few weeks up to six months or more, full time or part time.
Getting to work
Our candidates come from Gosport, Fareham and Havant, from Southampton along the M27 and from Chichester over the border in West Sussex. We match you by postcode and travel time. Most community roles need a driving licence and a car.
What we check
A recognised social work qualification, current Social Work England registration and two years or more of post qualifying experience in a statutory UK setting. You will also need the right to work in the UK, two contactable references covering recent employment, and an enhanced DBS on the update service. Without one, we can arrange the check for you.
Rate and application
