Flamingo Workforce
A short contract is a sensible way to try locum work, and some of ours in Newry last only a few weeks. If it suits you, the next one can be longer; contracts here go up to six months and beyond.
Trying locum work for the first time
If you have only ever held permanent posts, the practice itself will feel familiar. You carry a caseload, do assessments and reviews, write plans and reports, attend meetings and hearings where a case needs it, and work with families, carers and partner agencies. Records need to meet statutory and legal standards. What changes is the arrangement: you work for a set period, you are paid weekly for the hours you work, and you can choose full time or part time. Supervision and team support are still there on every placement.
Newry and its neighbours
We place social workers with health and social care teams in Newry and across the Southern Trust area. Matching is by postcode and travel time. Armagh and Craigavon are nearby, Lisburn and Dungannon a little further, and Belfast is within reach for those who commute. Teams take in children with their families, adult work, mental health, safeguarding and discharge from hospital.
Who can apply
Qualified social workers on the NISCC register, with no less than two years of statutory practice in the UK behind them since qualifying. We will want to see that you can work in the UK, and we approach two referees from your most recent posts. An Enhanced AccessNI Disclosure goes on your file too; we will arrange it if you have none. Expect to drive on most community posts, so a licence and a car are needed. Time spent in court work, child protection, safeguarding of adults, approved mental health practice or discharge planning is welcome, and if you have managed a team or worked as a senior practitioner, say so, because those posts are often requested.
Rate of pay
£25 to £40 an hour, depending on the team and level of the post.
Apply through the site with your CV and we will call you within one working day to start your compliance file.
