Court work is part of the job for some of the social workers we place in Leeds. If you are confident writing a report that will be read by a court, and standing behind it at a hearing, tell us early, because it shapes which teams we put you in front of.
Child protection and the courtroom
Experience in child protection and court proceedings is useful to the children and families teams we recruit for, though it is not a requirement for every post. The same goes for adult safeguarding, approved mental health work and hospital discharge. What every placement does need is someone who can hold a caseload, assess and review, write clear plans and reports and keep records that meet statutory and legal standards.
The wider picture
Our contracts in Leeds and across West Yorkshire are locum and agency roles with local authority and health and social care teams, in children and families, adult services, mental health, safeguarding and discharge. People come in from Bradford, Wakefield and York, and from Sheffield or Rochdale for the right booking. You will be working with families, carers and partner agencies most days, with supervision and a team around you on every placement.
Entry requirements
A recognised social work qualification, current Social Work England registration and a minimum of two years post qualifying practice in a UK statutory setting. You must have the right to work in the UK and two referees for recent employment. We look for an enhanced DBS on the update service and will arrange one if you need it. Most community roles call for a licence and a car. Senior practitioners and team managers are in regular demand here as well.
Length, hours and pay
Bookings last from a few weeks to six months or more, full time or part time. The rate is £25 to £40 an hour depending on the team and level, paid weekly.
