Children, families and the courts
A lot of locum work in children and families involves child protection and court work, and if you have done both you will be useful to the local authority and health and social care teams we supply. Expect a caseload of your own, assessments and reviews, plans written so that families can follow them, reports for meetings and for hearings, and plenty of joint work with carers and partner agencies. The recording needs to stand up to statutory and legal scrutiny. You will have supervision and team support throughout.
Getting around the Lothians
We place people by postcode and travel time, so your home address shapes what we offer. Edinburgh posts may suit those living in the city or the Lothians, and if you live in Glasgow, Dundee or across the border in Northumberland we can still consider you. For most community roles a licence and a car are needed.
Contract terms
Locum and agency contracts in Edinburgh run from a few weeks to six months or more. Full time and part time are both possible. The rate is £25 to £40 an hour, set by the team and the level of the post, and you are paid weekly for the hours you work.
Registration and vetting in Scotland
You should have a recognised social work qualification, current SSSC registration and at least two years of post qualifying practice in a UK statutory setting. Membership of the PVG scheme is required, and we can sort it out for you if needed. We confirm your right to work in the UK and take up two references from recent employment. Adult safeguarding, mental health or discharge experience is also welcome, and we often get requests for senior practitioners and team managers.
