Discharge and the wider mix
Discharge work means quick, careful assessment, close contact with the person and their carers, and a lot of joint working with partner agencies. It is not the only option. We also recruit for health and social care teams in children and families, adult services, mental health and safeguarding, so you can stay in discharge or move across when a contract ends.
On placement
You hold a caseload, carry out assessments and reviews, and write plans and reports. You attend meetings, and hearings when a case requires one. Your records need to meet statutory and legal standards. Every placement we arrange includes supervision and support from the team.
Where people travel from
We match social workers to posts by postcode and travel time. From Derry, Coleraine and Omagh are the obvious neighbours, with Dungannon, Ballymena and Enniskillen further afield. A driving licence and access to a car are needed for most community roles.
Qualifications and vetting
You need a recognised social work qualification and current registration with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council, and at least two years of post qualifying experience in a UK statutory setting. We will check your right to work in the UK and take two references from your recent employment. An Enhanced AccessNI Disclosure is required; we can arrange it if you do not hold one. As well as discharge, experience of child protection, court work, adult safeguarding or approved mental health work is useful, and there is regular demand for senior practitioners and team managers.
Hours, length and pay
Contracts run from a few weeks to six months or more, full time or part time. The rate is £25 to £40 an hour depending on the team and level of the post, paid weekly.
