Flamingo Workforce
Is two years enough? For locum social work in Craigavon, two years of post qualifying practice in a UK statutory setting is the minimum we ask, so if you have reached that point, you can apply.
Why two years
Locum social workers are expected to pick up a caseload and get on with it. That means assessments and reviews, plans and reports written clearly, meetings and hearings where required, and work with families, carers and partner agencies, all with records kept to statutory and legal standards. Two years in statutory work gives you the grounding for that. You will not be left on your own, though: supervision and team support are part of every placement.
The rest of the checklist
Alongside your experience you need a recognised social work qualification and current registration with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council. We also check your right to work in the UK, take up two references from your recent employment, and need an Enhanced AccessNI Disclosure, which we will arrange if you do not have one. Most community roles call for a driving licence and a car. If you have worked in child protection, court work, adult safeguarding, approved mental health work or hospital discharge, that helps. And if you are well beyond two years, senior practitioner and team manager posts are often requested.
