This suits a social worker who likes variety and is comfortable arriving in a new team and getting on with it. Some of our Bristol contracts are only a few weeks long, covering a gap while a team waits for a permanent appointment. Others run for six months or longer. You can take one, finish, and decide what comes next.
Living in Wales, working in Bristol
A fair number of people we talk to live over the bridge in Newport, Cwmbran or Cardiff, or closer in at Bath or Weston Super Mare. That works fine. Because the placements are in England, the registration that counts is Social Work England, whichever side of the Severn you go home to at night.
What you will be doing
Our locum and agency posts sit with local authority and health and social care teams across Bristol and the West of England, in children and families, adult services, mental health, safeguarding or hospital discharge. You will manage your own cases, carrying out assessments and reviews and writing clear plans and reports. Meetings and hearings are part of it when a case requires. You will work with families, carers and partner agencies, and keep records that meet statutory and legal standards. There is supervision and team support on every placement.
The checks
We ask for a recognised social work qualification, current Social Work England registration and two years or more post qualifying experience in a UK statutory setting. You will need the right to work in the UK and two contactable referees. An enhanced DBS on the update service is ideal, and if you do not have one we can arrange it. Most community roles need a licence and a car.
Pay, hours and applying
£25 to £40 an hour depending on the team and the level of the post, paid weekly, with full time and part time contracts available.
