How soon could I actually start? It is the first thing most social workers in Bradford ask us, and the honest answer is that it depends on your paperwork. Your first shift can go ahead as soon as your compliance file is complete, so the quicker we gather it, the sooner you are working.
Paperwork we chase on your behalf
We will need evidence of a recognised social work qualification and your current Social Work England registration, plus confirmation that you have two years or more post qualifying in a UK statutory service. Then there is your right to work, two referees from your recent employment and an enhanced DBS. If your DBS is already on the update service, that saves time. If it is not, we arrange the check for you rather than leaving you to sort it. A driving licence and use of a car are needed for most community posts.
The teams and the length of a booking
These are locum and agency contracts with local authority teams and with health and social care services, in Bradford itself and across West Yorkshire. Plenty of people travel in from Leeds or Wakefield, and some come over the Pennines from Rochdale, Oldham or Tameside. The service areas cover children and families, adults, mental health, safeguarding and hospital discharge. A contract might be a few weeks or might stretch past six months, and you can work full time or part time.
Day to day
You hold your own caseload, carry out assessments and reviews, and write the plans and reports that follow. Meetings and hearings come into it where a case needs them. You will spend time with families, carers and other agencies, and keep records that meet statutory and legal requirements, with supervision and team support on every placement.
Rates and applying
Pay is £25 to £40 per hour, depending on the team and the seniority of the post, and you are paid weekly for what you work.
