£25 to £40 an hour, paid every week. Where you land in that range depends on the team you join and the level of the post, and in Birmingham the top end is where our senior practitioners and team managers tend to sit.
Senior roles come up regularly
We get steady requests for experienced practitioners who can step into a senior or management post at short notice and hold a team steady. If that describes you, say so when we speak. Main grade locum work is just as much a part of what we fill, across children and families, adult services, mental health, safeguarding and hospital discharge, for local authority and health and social care teams in the city and out towards Solihull, Dudley, Walsall, West Bromwich and Wolverhampton.
The practice itself
Whatever the grade, you carry cases. That means assessing, reviewing, writing plans and reports, and turning up to meetings and hearings when they are needed. You will be talking to families and carers most days and working alongside partner agencies, and your notes need to meet statutory and legal standards. Each placement provides supervision and a team you can lean on. Bookings run anywhere from a few weeks up to six months or beyond, full time or part time.
What we will ask for
A social work qualification, live Social Work England registration and a minimum of two years post qualifying experience in UK statutory work. You must have the right to work in the UK and two references that cover your most recent roles. Child protection, court work, adult safeguarding, AMHP practice or discharge experience will strengthen your application, though none of it is required. An enhanced DBS on the update service is what we look for; if yours is not, we will organise one. For most community roles you will also need to drive and have a car.
