Some of our contracts in Armagh last a few weeks. Others run for six months or longer, which suits a social worker who wants time to settle into a team and see cases through without taking a permanent post.
Staying long enough to make a difference to a case
A longer locum contract gives you room to build relationships with the families and carers on your caseload, and with the partner agencies involved. You will carry out assessments and reviews, write plans and reports, attend meetings and, when needed, hearings, and keep records that hold up to statutory and legal standards. Supervision and team support come with each placement, short or long.
The teams in the Southern Trust area
Posts are with health and social care teams in Armagh and across the Southern Trust area, in children and families, adult services, mental health, safeguarding and hospital discharge. We place people by postcode and commuting time, so if you live in Dungannon, Craigavon or Newry we will look at what is close, and Lisburn or Antrim are an option if you are prepared to travel. Full time and part time contracts are both available.
Registration and checks
You should hold a recognised social work qualification and be registered with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council, with at least two years of post qualifying experience in a UK statutory service. We need to see your right to work in the UK and two references from recent employment. An Enhanced AccessNI Disclosure is required, and we can arrange one if you do not have it. Most community roles need a driving licence and a car. Child protection, court, adult safeguarding, approved mental health or discharge experience is welcome, and we are often asked for team managers and senior practitioners.
How pay works
The hourly rate is £25 to £40, set by the team and the level of the post, and it is paid weekly however long the contract runs.
