Local first
Every candidate is matched by postcode and drive time. In practice that means we ask early how far you are willing to drive in a working day and stick to it. Most community posts need a licence and a car, and given the distances involved, that matters.
The kind of post
Placements are with local authority and health and social care teams in the city and the wider North East. They cover children and families, adult services, mental health, safeguarding and hospital discharge, and they run as locum and agency contracts lasting anything from a few weeks to beyond six months, full time or part time. You hold a caseload, assess people and review their situation, write the plans and reports, go to meetings and hearings as needed, and work with families, carers and the other agencies involved. Records are held to the statutory and legal standard. Supervision and support from the team come with the job.
SSSC, PVG and the rest
You need a recognised social work qualification and current registration with the Scottish Social Services Council, plus a minimum of two years post qualifying in a UK statutory setting. PVG scheme membership is required; if you are not yet a member, we will arrange it. We also need your right to work in the UK confirmed and two references from your recent employment. Child protection, court work, adult safeguarding, mental health or hospital discharge experience is useful, and we hear regularly from teams wanting senior practitioners and team managers.
Pay
£25 to £40 an hour depending on the team and the level of the post, paid weekly.
