An agency shift as a registered nurse tends to go like this. You arrive, take handover and pick up a group of patients or residents you may not have met before. You assess them, plan what they need, give the care and check how it went. Medication goes out to NMC standards, observations get watched and acted on, and your notes are clear enough for the next nurse to rely on.
Where that happens
In Portsmouth and across Hampshire and the South Coast, the work is on hospital wards, in care and nursing homes, in mental health units and with community services. Adult nursing is the bulk of it, with regular requests for mental health and learning disability nurses on top. We book you by postcode and travel time, so Gosport, Fareham, Havant, Chichester or Southampton all make workable starting points.
If wards are your thing
If you like ward shifts, where you slot into the clinical team for the day and hand over at the end, say so when we call. If you would rather keep to care homes or community work, that is fine too. You choose the settings, and you choose the shifts.
Pay
£25 to £40 an hour depending on shift and setting, paid weekly. Ad hoc shifts, block bookings and longer placements are all available.
The checks
You need NMC registration with a live PIN and revalidation in date, at least six months of recent UK nursing, and the right to work in the UK. We look for an enhanced DBS on the update service and will arrange one if you lack it. Mandatory training should be current across safeguarding, life support, moving and handling and infection prevention. Occupational health clearance, immunisations suited to the setting and two contactable references complete the picture.
