Flamingo Workforce
Doctors based in Derry, or in Coleraine, Omagh, Dungannon, Ballymena or Enniskillen, can pick up registrar work across the North West without moving house. We match middle grade doctors to bookings by postcode and travel time, from one shift to a rolling contract of three months or longer.
Anaesthetics, psychiatry and the rest
Middle grade work is not only in the emergency department. We book anaesthetists and psychiatrists at middle grade as well as doctors in emergency medicine, general and acute medicine, surgery, paediatrics and obstetrics and gynaecology. Sites include major acute and district general hospitals in all five Trusts, and some bookings are in urgent care, out of hours or private and community services. Choose the intensity that suits your year.
A typical shift
Whatever the specialty, you are the senior decision maker under the consultant. Acutely unwell patients are yours to assess and manage. You run the take, check and teach the junior team, hold the middle grade bleep and perform the procedures your specialty needs within your competence. Resident on call is arranged only with your agreement. Consultants hear from you about escalation and admission, and governance, morbidity meetings and departmental safety are part of the role.
Requirements
Experience at ST3 or higher, or equivalent middle grade experience in your specialty, at least six months recently in the NHS or HSC, and full registration with the GMC including a licence to practise. ALS is essential, and ATLS or APLS may be needed depending on specialty. You must be able to supervise and lead a team out of hours and hold the right to work in the UK. MRCPsych, FRCA and other Royal College qualifications or exam progress are welcome.
Support and rates
We arrange the Enhanced AccessNI Disclosure, occupational health, immunisations and references, and help with appraisal, revalidation and mandatory training. Pay is £55 to £70 an hour, confirmed before every booking and paid weekly.
