Flamingo Workforce
Running the take, teaching as you go and being the one the juniors ring: that is the middle grade, and around Ballymena we book registrars to do exactly that, a shift at a time or on contracts of three months and longer.
Teaching on the job
A large share of a registrar shift is other people’s decisions. You review what foundation and core doctors have done, support and supervise them, and teach on the ward when there is a moment. Alongside that you lead on acutely unwell patients, carry the middle grade bleep and perform specialty procedures within your competence. Resident on call is only booked where you have agreed. Escalation and admission decisions go through the consultant, and you will have a voice in governance, morbidity meetings and departmental safety.
Specialties and settings
Emergency medicine, general and acute medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, anaesthetics and psychiatry. Placements cover major acute and district general hospitals across all five Trusts, and urgent care, out of hours and private and community services as well.
Your experience
We need ST3 or above, or equivalent middle grade experience, with at least six months recent in the NHS or HSC. Full GMC registration and a licence to practise are essential, as are the right to work in the UK, ALS (with ATLS or APLS where relevant) and the confidence to lead out of hours. MRCP, MRCS, MRCEM, FRCA, MRCPsych or progress towards one, together with rota or teaching leadership, will strengthen your application.
Our side of it
The Enhanced AccessNI Disclosure, occupational health, immunisations and references are all arranged by us, and we support appraisal, revalidation and mandatory training. Rates of £55 to £70 an hour are confirmed before every booking and paid weekly.
Commuting and applying
From Ballymena you can cover Antrim and Coleraine easily, with Belfast, Lisburn and Craigavon further on. Flamingo Workforce places doctors from FY1 to consultant across Northern Ireland. Apply through the site and tell us which specialty you work in.
