Middle grade work, your intensity
Registrar cover runs from a single shift to rolling contracts of three months and more, in emergency medicine, general and acute medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, anaesthetics and psychiatry. Sites range from major acute hospitals to district generals, along with urgent care, out of hours and private or community services. You decide how much you take on.
Responsibilities
Below consultant level you are the person making the call. You will assess and manage acutely unwell patients, run the take and look over what the junior team has decided. Teaching and supervising come with it. The middle grade on call bleep is yours, with resident on call only if agreed in advance. Specialty procedures are done within your competence, and you liaise with consultants on escalation and admissions while contributing to governance, morbidity meetings and departmental safety.
Essentials
Full GMC registration and a licence to practise; ST3 level or above, or equivalent middle grade experience; six months or more of recent NHS or HSC work; ALS, plus ATLS or APLS if your specialty needs it. You should be confident supervising juniors and leading out of hours, and you need the right to work in the UK. Royal College membership or exam progress, resus leadership and rota or teaching responsibility all help.
Rate and location
£55 to £70 an hour, confirmed before every booking and paid weekly, with an honest conversation about the rate before you agree. From Armagh, work in Dungannon, Craigavon and Newry is close, and Lisburn and Antrim are within range. We match on postcode and travel time.
