Specialties on our books
We place middle grade doctors into emergency medicine, general and acute medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, anaesthetics and psychiatry. Work spans major acute hospitals and district general sites in all five Health and Social Care Trusts, plus urgent care, out of hours services and private and community settings. Contracts run from a single shift to rolling arrangements of three months or longer.
The shift itself
You are the senior decision maker below consultant level. You lead on acutely unwell patients, run the take, check the decisions of junior doctors and teach as you go. You carry the middle grade bleep, and resident on call happens only where you have agreed to it. Procedures stay within your competence, escalation goes to the consultant, and there is a part to play in governance, morbidity meetings and safety work.
Who this suits
A doctor at ST3 or above, or with equivalent middle grade experience, who has at least six months of recent NHS or HSC work and holds full GMC registration with a licence to practise. ALS is needed, with ATLS or APLS where the specialty calls for it, and you should be comfortable leading a team out of hours. Membership or exam progress such as MRCP, MRCS, MRCEM, FRCA or MRCPsych is a plus, as is resus leadership. We arrange the Enhanced AccessNI Disclosure, occupational health, immunisations and references, and we help with appraisal, revalidation and mandatory training.
Rates
£55 to £70 an hour, confirmed before every booking and paid weekly. We talk rates openly before you commit.
