Short version first. SHO locum shifts in Oxford and across Oxfordshire, £45 to £55 an hour paid weekly, with a choice of sites, shifts and specialties. Now the detail, because doctors deserve more than a headline.
Notes that hold up
One thing we are upfront about: we want doctors who write good records. Every SHO booking we make expects documentation that would stand up to clinical and legal scrutiny. As a locum you may be handing a patient over to a team you have only just met, and clear notes are what make that safe. If you take pride in a tidy clerking and a sensible plan, you will fit right in.
The rest of the shift
Beyond paperwork, you would take referrals and clerk admissions on the acute take, review and manage inpatients, organise investigations and start treatment, and carry out procedures within your competence. Foundation colleagues on shift will need your support, and you will have registrar and consultant support yourself every time. Nights and weekends are part of on call. The work spans medical and surgical wards, assessment units, emergency departments and mental health units, across general medicine, emergency medicine, surgery and psychiatry.
The fine print
Our SHO grade covers ST1, CT1 and CT2 or equivalent experience. You must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a licence to practise, have the right to work in the UK, and bring six months or more of recent hospital experience in the NHS or HSC with core level or equivalent experience in a relevant specialty. In date ALS is needed, or ILS with a willingness to update. We ask for occupational health clearance, immunisations, two contactable references, an enhanced DBS on the update service and appraisal and revalidation that are current. We can arrange the DBS and support the revalidation.
Commuting and contracts
Doctors on Oxford bookings come in from Didcot, Witney, Bicester, Banbury and Aylesbury. You can work ad hoc shifts, block bookings or a contract of a month or more. The hourly rate is set by grade, shift and site and agreed before you accept.
