Distance first
You pick the sites. If Lowestoft or Bury St Edmunds is home and you only want work within a certain radius, we stick to it. If you are happy to travel for a block booking or a contract of a month or more, we can widen the search. Ad hoc shifts are available too.
The posts
SHO grade, open to ST1, CT1 and CT2 doctors and those with equivalent experience. Steady demand in general medicine, emergency medicine, surgery and psychiatry, with work on medical and surgical wards, in assessment units and emergency departments, and on mental health units. Registrars and consultants support you every shift.
Day to day you would handle referrals and clerk admissions on the acute take, review and manage inpatients, start investigations and treatment plans and perform procedures within your competence. You help supervise foundation doctors and take part in the on call rota, nights and weekends included. Notes have to hold up to clinical and legal scrutiny.
Getting on our books
Hold full GMC registration with a licence to practise and the right to work in the UK. Have at least six months of recent NHS or HSC hospital experience, and core level experience or equivalent in a relevant specialty. Carry current ALS, or ILS with a willingness to update. We then need occupational health clearance, immunisations, two references we can contact, an enhanced DBS on the update service (or we arrange it) and appraisal and revalidation in date, with our support if needed. Exam progress such as MRCP Part 1 or MRCEM Primary, ATLS or APLS, and emergency, acute medicine or psychiatry experience are desirable.
Pay
Between £45 and £55 an hour depending on grade, shift and site, agreed before you accept and paid weekly.
