Revalidation is the part of locum life that gets forgotten until it is suddenly urgent. Flamingo Workforce supports SHO doctors in Newcastle, and across Tyne and Wear and Northumberland, with appraisal and revalidation as well as the shifts themselves.
Keeping your licence in order
You need appraisal and revalidation in date to work with us, and if they are drifting we can help bring them back on track. The same goes for the rest of your file: we handle background checks, occupational health and references, and if your enhanced DBS is not on the update service we will arrange a new one. That leaves you to supply proof of full GMC registration and a licence to practise, the right to work in the UK, and evidence of six months or more of recent NHS or HSC hospital experience alongside core training level or equivalent experience in a relevant specialty. ALS should be current, or ILS with a willingness to update, and we will need immunisations and two contactable references.
Clinical scope
The grade is SHO, open to ST1, CT1 and CT2 doctors and those with equivalent experience. Demand is steady in general medicine, emergency medicine, surgery and psychiatry, so you could be on a medical or surgical ward, in an assessment unit, an emergency department or a mental health unit. Shifts involve the acute take, clerking and referrals, inpatient reviews, ordering investigations and planning treatment, procedures within your competence and supporting foundation colleagues. Registrar and consultant support is in place every shift. Nights and weekends feature on call, and clinical records need to withstand legal as well as clinical review.
Booking patterns
Ad hoc shifts, block bookings and longer contracts of a month or more. Plenty of our doctors here live in Gateshead, North Tyneside, South Shields or Sunderland, or further out in Northumberland, and we book with that in mind.
Pay
£45 to £55 an hour, paid weekly, agreed before you accept, and depending on grade, shift and site. MRCP Part 1, MRCEM Primary, ATLS or APLS help but are not required.
