What goes in the file
Full GMC registration and a licence to practise. The right to work in the UK. Six months or more of recent NHS hospital experience, and experience at core training level or equivalent in a relevant specialty. Advanced life support in date, or immediate life support with a willingness to update. PVG scheme membership, which we can arrange if you do not have it. Occupational health clearance, immunisations and two references, plus appraisal and revalidation in date, where we offer support. We chase the checks, occupational health and references so you are not doing it alone.
Grades and specialties
We book ST1, CT1 and CT2 doctors and doctors with equivalent experience. Demand is steady in general medicine, emergency medicine, surgery and psychiatry. Glasgow is within commuting range of Edinburgh, and doctors coming from Dundee or Northumberland can make it work on blocks or longer bookings.
Your shifts
You could be on medical or surgical wards, in assessment units, emergency departments or mental health units, always with registrar and consultant support. The work means clerking admissions and taking referrals on the acute take, managing inpatients through investigations and treatment, procedures within your competence, support for foundation doctors and a part in the on call rota, nights and weekends included. Your documentation has to withstand clinical and legal scrutiny. Experience in emergency, acute or psychiatric medicine, progress with MRCP Part 1 or MRCEM Primary, and ATLS or APLS are useful.
Pay
£45 to £55 an hour, paid weekly, with the rate agreed before you take a shift and set by grade, shift and site. Choose ad hoc shifts, block bookings or contracts of a month or more, and the sites and specialties that suit you.
