The doctors and the specialties
We want SHO grade doctors, whether core trainees or doctors with equivalent experience, for general medicine, emergency medicine, surgery and psychiatry, where SHO demand on acute rotas is constant. Craigavon is in the Southern Trust area, with Armagh, Lisburn, Dungannon and Newry all close, and Antrim within reach. Because we place by postcode and travel time, you will not be sent across the country when you would rather stay local.
On the rota
Medical and surgical wards, assessment units, emergency departments and mental health units, worked with an appropriate degree of autonomy. Taking referrals and clerking on the acute take, managing inpatients through investigations and treatment, carrying out procedures you are competent in, supervising foundation doctors, and liaising with registrars and consultants on when to escalate. Nights and weekends come round on the on call rota.
Essentials for your file
Full GMC registration and a licence to practise, the right to work in the UK, at least six months of recent hospital experience in the NHS or HSC, and experience at core training level or equivalent in a relevant specialty. ALS, or ILS with a willingness to update, and immunisations. Royal College exam progress, ATLS or APLS, Encompass experience and time in emergency, acute or psychiatric medicine would all be welcome.
