Flamingo Workforce
This suits a doctor partway through Royal College exams who wants clinical hours on their own terms. Perhaps MRCP Part 1 is done and you are working towards the next part, or MRCEM Primary is on the calendar. Locum SHO work in Cambridge lets you set your hours around revision rather than the other way round.
Fitting work around study
Flamingo Workforce books ad hoc shifts, block bookings and longer contracts of a month or more across Cambridgeshire. In a revision month you might take a handful of single shifts. Once the exam is behind you, a block makes sense. You choose sites, shifts and specialty, and we fit around you.
The clinical picture
General medicine, emergency medicine, surgery and psychiatry are where demand stays steady. You would be on medical or surgical wards, assessment units, emergency departments or mental health units, with registrar and consultant support every shift. The job covers clerking and referrals on the acute take, inpatient reviews, investigations and treatment plans, procedures within your competence, support for foundation doctors and a share of nights and weekends on call. Record keeping has to meet clinical and legal standards.
Who can apply
ST1, CT1 and CT2 doctors, or those with equivalent experience, with full GMC registration and a licence to practise. You need the right to work in the UK, half a year or more of recent NHS or HSC hospital experience and core level experience in a relevant specialty. We also ask for advanced life support in date, or immediate life support with a willingness to update, occupational health clearance and immunisations, two contactable references, an enhanced DBS on the update service (or we arrange one) and appraisal and revalidation that are current. We can help with revalidation.
Pay and the commute
Hourly rates of £45 to £55, paid weekly and agreed before you accept, with grade, shift and site deciding the figure. Doctors working Cambridge shifts often live out in Ely, Newmarket, Huntingdon, Bury St Edmunds or down the line in Stevenage.
Use the site to send your CV and GMC number, and we will call you on the same working day.
