£45 to £55 an hour, paid every week, and you know the figure before you accept the shift. That is the money side of locum SHO work with Flamingo Workforce in Brighton and around Sussex. Where in that range you land comes down to your grade, the shift and the site.
Why weekly pay matters
Locums tell us the thing that wears them down is not the work, it is chasing money. Being paid weekly, at a rate settled up front, takes that away. You do the shift, the pay follows, and there is no haggling after the event.
Where you would work
SHO grade posts on medical and surgical wards, in assessment units and emergency departments, and on mental health units, always with a registrar and consultant on hand. Demand holds steady across general medicine, emergency medicine, surgery and psychiatry. We take ST1, CT1 and CT2 doctors and those with equivalent experience.
The shifts mean clerking admissions on the acute take, picking up referrals, reviewing your inpatients, starting investigations and treatment, doing procedures within your competence and helping the foundation doctors on shift. You will share nights and weekends on the on call rota, and your records need to be solid enough for clinical and legal scrutiny.
Getting cleared
You need full registration with the GMC and a licence to practise, the right to work in the UK, at least six months of recent NHS or HSC hospital work and core level experience in a relevant specialty. On top of that come ALS in date (ILS is fine if you are willing to update), an enhanced DBS on the update service, which we can arrange if you do not have one, occupational health clearance, immunisations, two contactable references and appraisal and revalidation kept current with our support. ATLS or APLS helps where it fits your specialty.

Plenty of our Sussex doctors live in Worthing, Eastbourne, Haywards Heath, Horsham or Crawley. Tell us how far you will travel and we book around it, from single ad hoc shifts to blocks and contracts of a month or more.
