Flamingo Workforce books SHO grade doctors into locum work in Birmingham and across the West Midlands, and you are the one who picks the sites, the shifts and the specialty.
Who we place
The grade is SHO: ST1, CT1 and CT2 doctors, or anyone with equivalent experience. Most of the work sits in general medicine, emergency medicine, surgery and psychiatry, spread across medical and surgical wards, assessment units, emergency departments and mental health units. There is registrar and consultant support on every shift.
Your patch, your call
A lot of the doctors we talk to simply want to work near home. Someone in Solihull might take a block in the city centre, while a doctor in West Bromwich keeps to ad hoc dates that fit around family. Both suit us. We book single shifts, block bookings and contracts of a month or more, and the rate is settled before you agree to anything. Pay runs from £45 to £55 an hour, paid weekly, with the exact figure set by grade, shift and site.
What the shifts involve
You would take referrals and clerk admissions on the acute take, review inpatients and get investigations and treatment plans started, carry out procedures within your competence and keep an eye on the foundation doctors working alongside you. Nights and weekends are part of the on call rota, and your notes have to stand up to clinical and legal scrutiny.
Before the first booking
We need full GMC registration with a licence to practise, the right to work in the UK, at least six months of recent NHS or HSC hospital experience and core level experience in a relevant specialty. Add in date ALS (or ILS and a willingness to update), occupational health clearance with immunisations, two contactable references, an enhanced DBS on the update service or one we arrange for you, and appraisal and revalidation that are current, which we can help with. MRCP Part 1, MRCEM Primary, ATLS or APLS count in your favour but are not essential.
