Flamingo Workforce
Acute rotas in Belfast, as everywhere in Northern Ireland, lean heavily on SHOs who can hold a ward together. The need for them is constant in general medicine, emergency medicine, surgery and psychiatry, and Flamingo Workforce is recruiting SHO grade doctors, core trainees or equivalent, to fill ad hoc shifts, block bookings and longer locum contracts.
Beyond the hospital wards
Most bookings are in HSC hospitals: medical and surgical wards, assessment units, emergency departments and mental health units across the five Trusts. We also place doctors with urgent care and out of hours services and in private and community settings. Living in Belfast gives you plenty of reach, and if you are in Lisburn, Antrim, Craigavon, Ballymena or Newry we will weigh up your postcode and travel time before suggesting anything.
Clinical expectations
You will have a fair degree of autonomy. The job covers referrals and clerking on the acute take, inpatient reviews with the investigations and treatment plans that follow, procedures within your competence, support for foundation colleagues and escalation conversations with registrars and consultants. The on call rota includes nights and weekends, and your records should be sound enough for clinical and legal scrutiny.
Eligibility
Full registration with the GMC and a licence to practise; the right to work in the UK; at least six months of recent NHS or HSC hospital experience; experience at core training level or equivalent in a relevant specialty. You will need ALS, or ILS and a willingness to update, plus occupational health clearance, immunisations, contactable references and an in date appraisal and revalidation. We arrange the Enhanced AccessNI Disclosure. Royal College exam progress, ATLS or APLS, Encompass experience, and a background in emergency, acute or psychiatric work are all welcome.
What the agency covers
Pay is £45 to £55 an hour, weekly, without you chasing timesheets. We confirm your background check before each booking, support appraisal, revalidation and mandatory training, and let you pick sites, shifts and specialties. Apply through the site when you are ready.
