Flamingo Workforce
A single session, a block of shifts, a fixed term contract or a substantive post. SHO grade doctors who come to us for work in Ballymena can choose any of those, depending on how much of your diary you want to give.
Who fits
Core trainees and doctors with equivalent experience at SHO level. General medicine, emergency medicine, surgery and psychiatry all need steady SHO cover across Northern Ireland, and Ballymena sits in the Northern Trust area, with Antrim close by and Coleraine, Belfast, Lisburn and Craigavon all within driving distance. We match you to work by postcode and travel time, so the commute is part of the decision from the start.
Settings and responsibility
Expect medical and surgical wards, assessment units, emergency departments and mental health units, where you work with a sensible level of autonomy. You will clerk admissions and handle referrals on the acute take, look after inpatients from investigation to treatment plan, perform procedures within your competence, guide foundation colleagues, and escalate to registrars or consultants when a decision needs them. There is a share of on call nights and weekends, and records that hold up clinically and legally are expected.
Registration, checks and certificates
You must hold full GMC registration with a licence to practise and have the right to work in the UK. We also need at least six months of recent NHS or HSC hospital work, experience at core training level or equivalent, advanced life support (or immediate life support plus a willingness to update), occupational health clearance with immunisations, and references. Flamingo Workforce arranges your Enhanced AccessNI Disclosure and helps with appraisal, revalidation and mandatory training. It helps to have MRCP Part 1 or MRCEM Primary progress, ATLS or APLS, or some time on Encompass.
