Some doctors want one shift at a time. Others would rather commit to Aberdeen for a month or longer and settle into one place. Both work with us: alongside ad hoc shifts and block bookings, there are longer locum contracts for SHO grade doctors across the North East of Scotland.
Grades we book
ST1, CT1 and CT2, or doctors with equivalent experience. The need is steady in general medicine, emergency medicine, surgery and psychiatry. Aberdeen is a long way north of the central belt, so a contract can make sense for a doctor coming up from Dundee, Edinburgh or Glasgow who is happy to base themselves in the city for a while.
Settings and support
You will work at SHO level on medical and surgical wards, assessment units, emergency departments or mental health units, with a registrar and consultant supporting every shift. The job covers referrals and clerking on the acute take, inpatient reviews with the investigations and treatment plans that follow, procedures within your competence and support for foundation colleagues. There is on call too, nights and weekends included, and your notes must stand up to clinical and legal scrutiny.
Registration, PVG and the rest
Full GMC registration with a licence to practise is essential, together with the right to work in the UK, six months or more of recent NHS hospital experience and experience at core training level or equivalent in a relevant specialty. Keep ALS in date, or hold ILS and be willing to update. If you are not yet a member of the PVG scheme we can arrange it. Occupational health clearance, immunisations and two contactable references are required, and so is an in date appraisal and revalidation, where we can lend a hand. MRCP Part 1 or MRCEM Primary progress, ATLS or APLS and emergency, acute or psychiatric experience all help.
Rate and how to register
Pay runs from £45 to £55 an hour, paid weekly, depending on grade, shift and site, and the rate is agreed before you accept. Flamingo Workforce looks after your compliance and books you where you want to work. Apply through the site with your CV and GMC number; we call the same working day.
