Labour ward and theatre
You would work alongside the midwifery team, handle obstetric emergencies and carry out operative deliveries within your own competence, escalating to the consultant whenever the case calls for it. Between deliveries there are ward patients to review and, on some shifts, clinics to support.
The gynaecology side
On call means assessing gynaecology emergencies and early pregnancy presentations as they arrive. You would also be the senior figure for the SHO and foundation doctors on the rota, so supervising them is part of the shift rather than an extra.
Paperwork we take off you
You need full GMC registration and a licence to practise, the right to work in the UK and recent hospital experience in the NHS or HSC at registrar grade. Bring ALS in date, or ILS plus a willingness to update it. We organise the Enhanced AccessNI Disclosure, occupational health clearance and your two references, and we can help if your appraisal or revalidation needs attention. MRCOG Part 1 or further, NLS and earlier registrar time in the specialty all count in your favour, though none of them is essential.
Shifts, blocks and money
Single shifts and blocks are both on offer. Pay sits at £55 to £70 an hour, agreed with you before you say yes to a shift and paid weekly; the exact figure depends on grade, shift and Trust. Antrim is an easy run from Ballymena, Belfast and Lisburn, and doctors further out in Craigavon or Dungannon make the trip too.
