Flamingo Workforce
Omagh to Enniskillen, Omagh to Dungannon, Omagh to Derry: before we offer an FY2 doctor anything, we look at the postcode and the travel time. Locum work should fit around where you live in the Western Trust area, not the other way round.
Keeping the drive down
Matching by postcode means we start with the shifts closest to you and work outwards. Armagh and Craigavon are possible too if you do not mind a longer run. You pick the days, twilights, nights or weekends you can manage, and the booking type: ad hoc, a block, or a longer locum contract. Immediate and short notice starts are on offer.
On shift
You could be in an emergency department, an acute medical or surgical assessment unit, on the inpatient wards or covering out of hours, always under senior supervision. The job is assessing acute presentations, carrying the bleep, putting reviews in order of priority, doing procedures with growing independence and escalating quickly when a patient deteriorates. Write good notes and hand over safely. FY1s and medical students will sometimes look to you, and audit or governance may be part of some placements.
Eligibility in short
Full GMC registration and a licence to practise, Foundation Year 1 complete, and about six months of recent UK or Irish hospital experience. Bring ILS, ideally ALS, and the right to work in the UK. Emergency or acute medicine experience and familiarity with Encompass or a similar record system are welcome.
Money and checks
Pay is £45 to £55 an hour, confirmed before you book and paid weekly. The Enhanced AccessNI Disclosure, occupational health and immunisations, and references are arranged by us, and we can support appraisal, revalidation and mandatory training.
