Flamingo Workforce

Coleraine sits on the north coast, with Ballymena and Derry the obvious neighbours and Antrim, Dungannon and Omagh further afield. For an FY2 doctor living anywhere along that stretch, we look for locum shifts by postcode and travel time, so the commute stays sensible.

Holding the ward bleep

On ward and out of hours shifts, the bleep is yours. You prioritise the reviews, see the sickest first, and escalate quickly when a patient starts to deteriorate. Acute presentations get assessed under senior supervision, practical procedures become more independent as your confidence builds, and every shift finishes with accurate notes and a safe handover. Work also comes up in emergency departments and acute medical or surgical assessment units. FY1 colleagues and medical students will look to you, and audit or governance work is there when the placement allows.

Choosing your pattern

Days, twilights, nights and weekends are all bookable. Take ad hoc shifts, commit to a block or go for a longer locum contract, with immediate or short notice starts where you can manage them. Pay runs at £45 to £55 an hour, confirmed before each booking and paid weekly.

Requirements

Full GMC registration and a licence to practise, Foundation Year 1 completed and roughly six months of recent hospital experience in the UK or Ireland. ILS is essential and ALS desirable, and you will need the right to work in the UK plus contactable references and occupational health clearance with immunisations. Emergency or acute medicine time and experience with an electronic record system such as Encompass will help. Tell us about any specialty you want more exposure to.

What Flamingo Workforce handles

We arrange the Enhanced AccessNI Disclosure and look after occupational health and references, and we support appraisal, revalidation and mandatory training. We place doctors from FY1 to consultant across the five Health and Social Care Trusts. Apply through the site and we will be in touch about north coast shifts.
