If you live in Armagh, or anywhere between Dungannon, Craigavon and Newry, there is no reason your FY2 locum shifts should mean a long drive. We match doctors to work by postcode and travel time, so the Southern Trust area is a sensible place to start, with Lisburn and Antrim there too if you are willing to go a bit further.
The compliance file, done for you
This is usually the slow part, so we take it on. We arrange the Enhanced AccessNI Disclosure, gather occupational health clearance and the immunisations the setting needs, and collect references that cover your recent jobs. If your appraisal or revalidation needs bringing up to date, we can help with that, and with mandatory training.
What you bring
Full registration with the GMC plus a licence to practise, Foundation Year 1 completed, and something like six months of recent hospital work in the UK or Ireland. You need ILS at least, and the right to work in the UK. ALS, time in an emergency department or acute medicine, and familiarity with Encompass or another electronic record all help. If there is a specialty you want to see more of, tell us and we will try to match it.
The work
Shifts are in emergency departments, acute medical and surgical assessment units, inpatient wards and out of hours, with senior support around you. Expect to assess acute patients, hold the ward bleep, prioritise reviews, do practical procedures and escalate quickly when someone is going off. Good notes and a safe handover close every shift, and FY1s and students will lean on you now and then.
Hours and pay
Choose days, twilights, nights, weekends or a mix. Ad hoc shifts, block bookings and longer locum contracts are all available, with immediate and short notice starts if you want them. The rate is £45 to £55 an hour, confirmed before each booking and paid weekly.
