Working in the community
Community shifts and one to one work can feel very different from a busy ward. You may be with one person for the length of a shift, helping with personal care, getting them moving safely, keeping an eye on meals and drinks and recording observations. On a ward or in a home, the same skills apply as part of a larger team, supporting nurses and carers and keeping notes clear and up to date. In every setting the aim is the same: people comfortable and safe.

We match healthcare assistants to shifts by postcode and travel time. Whether you are based in the city, in Lisburn, Antrim or Ballymena, or further south in Craigavon or Newry, we look at what is close to you before we offer anything.
AccessNI and the other checks
In Northern Ireland we need an Enhanced AccessNI Disclosure, and if you do not have one we can arrange it for you. We also ask for at least six months of recent UK healthcare assistant or care experience, the right to work in the UK and two references from your recent employment. The Care Certificate is expected; we will support you to complete it if needed. Your basic life support, moving and handling, infection prevention and safeguarding training should be in date, with occupational health clearance and the immunisations the setting requires.
Pay and the next step
Shifts pay £13 to £15 an hour depending on the setting and shift, and you are paid weekly. Choose ad hoc shifts, block bookings or a longer placement.
