Where the shifts sit
Flamingo Workforce places support workers with care providers, supported living and residential services, mental health teams, local authorities and community settings across Greater London. The work ranges from supported living and learning disability support through complex care, community outreach, domiciliary visits, young people’s services and waking nights. You might take a single shift, a block booking or a permanent post, and nothing stops you mixing them.
The people you work with
The job is helping someone live as independently as they can, on their own terms. In practice that means personal care and practical help shaped around the individual, building their confidence to get out and do everyday things, supporting positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing, giving medication where you are trained to, writing records that are accurate and kept private, and keeping people safe from harm.
Before your first booking
You will need relevant care experience and training, with the Care Certificate where it applies, the right to work in the UK, an enhanced DBS check (we can help you get one), mandatory training that is still in date, occupational health clearance suited to the setting and references for your recent jobs. A Level 2 or Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, PBS, MAPA or PMVA training, a driving licence for community and domiciliary work, or a background in autism, mental health, complex care or young people’s services will all count in your favour.
Money and paperwork
Pay is £13 to £16 an hour, paid weekly. Your consultant gets to know which parts of the city you will and will not travel to, takes care of the compliance side, from DBS and right to work to the rest of the forms, and can point you towards specialist training or the Care Certificate if you need it.
