Support Worker (Driver), Henley-on-Thames

Flamingo Workforce

Can you drive a van, put nervous people at ease and take an accurate blood pressure reading? That combination is what a private healthcare provider near Henley-on-Thames needs, and the job pays a salary of £25,000 to £28,000 rather than an hourly rate. Flamingo Workforce is handling the recruitment.

Why driving matters so much

There is no ward and no fixed office. The provider takes preventative health screening out to staff in their workplaces, to community venues and onto a mobile unit, and that unit has to get from place to place. A full, valid UK driving licence that covers the mobile unit or van is essential, along with a willingness to travel all over Oxfordshire. Applications without one cannot go forward.

A day on the unit

Picture the unit parked up at a large employer. People come in one at a time for a Health MOT. You explain the checks, take consent and work through blood pressure, height, weight and waist, working out BMI and logging everything digitally as you go. Then comes the conversation people remember, about smoking, alcohol, exercise and how they are feeling, followed by clear results, a little practical advice and a pointer to the right health service if anything needs a second look. Before you move on, the equipment is cleaned, checked and packed away properly.

What you bring

A Level 3 qualification in a health, care, fitness, beauty or wellbeing subject, or experience that matches it. You should have worked with patients or the public and be comfortable keeping information confidential and following protocols when nobody senior is standing next to you. A background in community or occupational health is a bonus. Training for the role itself is given, along with a proper onboarding period.

Benefits worth adding up

Full time and permanent, with BUPA healthcare, a pension, gym vouchers, golf, discounts at the provider’s clinics and your birthday off. Holiday starts at 21 days plus bank holidays and grows by a day a year until it reaches 25.
